WOLFGANG SCHERR CONTINUES HIS TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERING CAREER WITH DELAWARE VALLEY REGIONAL PLANNING COMMISION
As of January 4, 2010, Wolfgang Scherr will be working for the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) in Philadelphia, PA as a Senior Transportation Engineer in the office of Travel Modeling and Analysis. DVRPC is the metropolitan planning organization (MPO) for the greater Philadelphia region with a population of 5.5 million. He is excited to have the opportunity to contribute to the transportation planning process in his own community. For Wolfgang, it is an extraordinary time to join DVRPC, as the transportation and land-use models are being upgraded and significantly improved. At the same time, the modeling team ventures into new fields of application such as non-motorized travel and transit operations planning.
As part of the Cambridge Systematics (CSI) team to upgrade and improve the DVRPC model, Wolfgang has spent a good part of the past year working with CSI and DVRPC staff while converting the agencies model into VISUM. The DVRPC model is the largest North American MPO model to use PTV Vision.
“Despite my excitement over this new opportunity, it is difficult to leave PTV. I worked here during most of my career. Anyway, I will continue to have a presence in the PTV World – as a user of PTV software, “ Wolfgang stated.
Wolfgang has been a respected leader of PTV for over 15 years where he earned a valued reputation as a travel demand modeler, developing many models in the US, Canada and Europe. As PTV prepares for Wolfgang’s departure, Thomas Bauer reflects on the impact of Wolfgang’s contributions. “We joined the ranks of travel demand forecasting software providers in North American upon Wolfgang’s arrival at PTV America in 2001 – he helped us accomplish a lot in that time. I have no doubt that he will make similar contributions to the DVRPC model”.
